Falls to Forks

RN: We drive a long way (over 300 miles) from Sioux Falls SD to Grand Forks ND to visit Diane, one of my grad students from early days at OHSU days in Portland OR. Diane was the warm spirit of the lab, always friendly, very competent and organized and especially great at keeping everyone connected. I still have her lab books because she was super organized and, when I taught Responsible Conduct in Research, I would use her notes as an outstanding example of how to keep a lab notebook (I used my lab notebook from grad school as the poor example). She defended her PhD dissertation in 1998 and went to Harvard for her postdoc. She is now a successful tenured professor at the University of North Dakota. I call my grad students my “babies” and it is so cool to see your babies all growed up!

We go out to dinner at a restaurant called the Blue Moose and, afterwards, Diane, her husband Tristan, and their daughter Serena pose in front of the animal display at Cabal’s.

And here I am with them in front of the blue moose.
