New River

RN and FE: On our way to Beckley from Marlinton in southern West Virginia, we visited the New River Gorge National Park, one of the newest national parks.  New River Gorge is located in the Appalachian Mountains and, according to Wikipedia: “Established in 1978 as a national river and redesignated in 2020, the park and preserve stretches for 53 miles (85 km) from just downstream of Hinton to Hawks Nest State Park near Ansted.”  We only visited the southern part from Hinton to Beckley; we will explore the northern half of the park another time. Hinton is a town where time stands still, mostly in a good way, and the scenery in the park is gorgeous so here are some of our favorite photos…

  1. Great. WordPress still insists I log in to leave a comment, but because I have an ancient account that I can’t remember, I can never log in. Anyway, I am delighted so many places are being protected now. Beautiful place.
