Falls, Jumps and Boise

RN: The Snake River is a mighty tributary of the Columbia River.  It starts in the south-west corner of Yellowstone Park and flows through Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.  We met the Snake River in Twin Falls, Idaho when we stopped to charge our car near an overlook.  The views were stupendous- the river canyon, the lush recreational area below, and a high bridge over which we had just driven.  As we stopped to take photos of the bridge, we suddenly saw someone jump off the bridge with a parasail- a flat parachute that you can guide through the air.  We were awestruck by the sight.  These brave folks are known as base jumpers and this site is so famous that it attracts folks from all around the world. Much as I admire them, I definitely would not want to do this!  I’m a big chicken!!

FE: I really like the small city of Twin Falls, this is my fourth visit The reasons are simple: it is a convenient stop between Portland and Salt Lake, where our daughters live, even more convenient now that we can charge our Tesla here, a number of decent restaurants and motels, and the the view of the canyon, the falls, the bridge and the base jumpers. Here are some photographs (the one of Shoshone falls was taken our last visit here).

Then on to Boise, one of those very rapidly expanding Mountain West cities, lovely in the center, sprawl all around it.

Normally we stay in affordable motels, but here your weary travelers splurge a bit. We know that the Inn at 500 Capital in the center is a very artsy, well run boutique hotel with a great restaurant in it. The well trained folks at the desk greet us with a glass of Chardonnay; there is lots of fun art throughout; and many of the individual rooms are dedicated to great performers. Today we stay in the Audrey Hepburn room.

and then we enjoy artisan cocktails at Richards, the fine restaurant

and the food is great…I am having lamb lollipop skewers with a delicious blackberry sauce, but Rae’s saffron risotto stuffed quail in asiago cream sauce with basil oil tops it all.

  1. Wow. My brother and my nephew live in Boise. One of these days I need to get there to visit.
