Recovery

RN: After all the joyous hubbub of yesterday, we were glad to take a day of relaxation.  I took a walk with my brother Al, sister Naomi, and sister-in-law Nancy, while Felix… well, he’ll tell you…

We found our way to the Mark O. Hatfield Trailhead in Hood River, which was only 2 miles from our rental.  This trailhead opens onto a paved path that is the former historical Columbia Gorge Highway that was replaced by I-84.  This section of the highway has been converted into a motorized vehicle-free path for walkers, bikers, and runners and runs 4.5 miles from Hood River to the Twin Tunnels near Mosier.  It is elevated above I-84 and has wonderful views of the Gorge and is, well, gorgeous.  We speed-walked a round trip of 5.5 miles, totally tiring out Nancy and Al’s dog Marley (and me).

All tuckered out

FE. I took a different path to recovery. I must point out that I drank little during the wedding and it was my dancing feet, hips, back, rest of old body and over-socialized mind that needed TLC. I slept in, had a couple of cups of high-octane Joe, a long soak in a hot bath, another nap….et voila, good as new.

We had lunch with Alex and Mimi in town and Alex pointed out that in one week they were going to have moved to Vermont. Wow, fly across the continent (with two cats), sell the house in Salt Lake City (fingers crossed), look for a new home in VT, start two new jobs, and while being third-trimesterly pregnant, Easy-Peasy right. Well, one set of parents is on a distant road trip…do we feel guilty? Naahhh

After saying Goodbye to A&M we walked to Kazumi and Evan’s condo….nice view over the river, whitecaps and windsurfers are out today. My grand-dog Stanley tries to slobber all over me, but I am aware of his tricks. So we say goodbye, will see them in a few weeks when we drive back up from California.

  1. How wonderful for all of you. Rae, your birth family is really good-looking. I note no Mama Nishi at the wedding. All okay? Felix, clever of you to not join that family in their killer walk. It sounds like the perfect unwinding from a great, great event. The young ones’ move sounds exhausting and exciting in equal parts. I assume they have housing in Vermont lined up, since they certainly seem like people who can do it all…..

Keep up the good work and fun. Miss you here but so glad for you.
