Giants to Sunset

RN: We said “Good by” to Eureka and hit the road, going straight up US101 and quickly drove into Redwoods National Park, taking a scenic byway. We decided to get out of the car and take a short walk and it was incredible to commune with these giant trees. The Redwood Skywalk in Eureka was spectacular, but those trees were just adolescents (700-800 yrs old) compared to these (2000-3000 yrs old). If you drive by in a car, you simply can’t appreciate their size…you have to stand next to them, as you can see below.

After communing with the giants, we drove north into Oregon and stopped in Harris State Park to admire the incredible coastline…

FE. Small wonders…we walked towards the hollow tree above and all of a sudden a 2year old kid popped out of a hole just large enough for her, smiled at us, said “Hi!” and jumped back into the tree where her family of four were comfortably holed up

RN: As we were admiring the scenery, the fickle fog started drifting in. We took that as a cue to hit the road again.

We ended up in Gold Beach OR and, after a fine dinner, I wandered down to the beach behind our hotel to see the sunset. These beaches have its of driftwood, and the visitors can’t help but make driftwood sculptures.
